Holiday Help!!

Reading through an article in the Desert Health newspaper, and I wanted to share a few helpful tips they give for fighting holiday lbs, staying healthy, and keeping yourself from becoming overwhelmed with all the holiday "stuff".
First off, increase exercise! Most people, even though excited for the joys of the holidays, become concerned with managing their weight between halloween and New Years day! By increasing the calories you burn off there will be less excess for your body to store. You may also be less likely to over indulge because you just worked hard and you deserve to see results!
Second, trade fat calories. The article says to planning ahead and making smart dietary choices is key in limiting weight gain over the holidays. Limit sugary and alcoholic drinks, skip the cheese dip, run from candy bowls, etc.
Add immune boosters. 'Tis the season for colds and flus, even more so when we are constantly around other people at holiday parties. Add daily doses of Vitamin C, D, and Echinacea may help ward off illness.
lastly, Take it easy. To avoid holiday burn out they recommend taking time for yourself (I give an amen to this one!) Make sure you get enough sleep at night to avoid feeling worn out. Plan and stay organized so you dont have to all that last minute rushing around. The holidays are time to celebrate and relax. Enjoy the season and stay healthy!
